Shere Open Gardens is a not-for-profit event benefitting a number of charities and good causes close to Shere’s heart. The following are some of the causes supported by Shere Open Gardens:
Shere Infant School and Nursery
Cherry Trees Respite Care in Clandon
Shere & Gomshall Scouts
Shere Cricket Club
Shere Over 65s Christmas Party
Examples of how some of these funds have been used:
Shere School
Donations from Shere Open Gardens have made a significant impact on Shere Infant School, funding a range of outdoor projects that nurture children’s connection with the natural world. These generous contributions have supported the development of the Hedgehogs Garden, the Nature Garden, and the Forest School—each providing unique, hands-on learning experiences. Through planting, exploring, and caring for their outdoor spaces, the children have developed a lasting appreciation for nature and a deeper understanding of growth, sustainability, and the environment. These projects continue to inspire curiosity, creativity, and a love for the outdoors in every child.
Shere Museum
Shere Museum has for some years been a very grateful recipient of support provided by Shere Open Gardens from the funds raised by this popular event. Last year’s generous donation was put to good use in helping to pay for the new ‘kit’ that the Museum purchased to help bring it into the modern media age. A new iPad and screen were purchased to host and display ‘Catalogit’ the newly digitised photographic record being developed to record the collection, and enhance the visitors visual and aural experience as they explore the Museum.
